The planet Xylanthia is a dark, lifeless planet orbiting the star Sirius. Xylanthia was discovered by the Scig in Galactic Year 1717, and by humans in Galactic Year 2222. The planet is rich in rare earth metals, transition metals, and gemstones, and has been treasured by all three civilizations throughout history.
Geology[]
Xylanthia's geological layers are not that unlike Earth's in layout. The inner core of the planet is solid diamond, surrounded by an outer core of graphite. Liquid molten carbon makes up the mantle, and a carbon crust makes up the final layer. Xylanthia no longer has plate tectonics, but there is evidence that it did at one time. The carbon crust gives the planet a dark, black appearance from space. Volcanoes are frequent on the surface, and a giant ocean of molten carbon takes up one third of the planet's surface.
Scig Colonization[]
In the year 1717, before they had encountered any other species, a small exploration force of Scig soldiers landed on Xylanthia. They found it inhospitable, but also rich in minerals. They set up a small colony, which eventually grew steadily, until Galactic Year 2019.
In Galactic Year 2019, a breakaway faction of the Scig Armada established an independent state on Xylanthia. The Scig Armada had to put down the rebellion, but it was no easy task. A bloody battle that lasted four years ruined any signs of colonization the planet had seen. The Scig, believing the planet to be dangerous to the well-being of their species, abandoned it completely, leaving only one destroyed cruiser: the Scig flagship M'vnil, a powerful starship with an incredible warp drive.
