The state of the world during WW5.
World War 5 (often abrreviated to WW V or WW5), also known as the Fifth World War, the „War against Heaven“ or the „Great Human War“ was a transglobal war that lasted from 2114 to 2120. Following the so called „Days of Fire“ or „Mid-Century Apocalypse“ of WW4, Earth was rendered almost completely devastated on an ecological, social and political level. Due to large portions of the planet becoming near inhospitable, with only a certain amount of nations on the Southern Hemisphere being able to form larger functional societies, Earth experienced an unprecedented mass-exodus, enabled through the joint cooperation of many of the globe’s political leadership remnants. As a result, vast amounts of material resources were spent to build several generational space stations in Earths orbit to ensure that as many people as possible could escape the now toxic environment of Earth and live amongst the stars in what hopefully would be transhuman harmony. Millions of people managed to leave the planet to inhabit these 3 Space Stations, which were called „Arks“, marking this event as the so called „Rapture“. Most surviving humans however didn’t manage to leave the planet for the Arks and were de facto abandoned on Earth, where several forms of new societal models emerged. Due to needing resources from Earth to sustain themselves, the Ark populations regularly came down to the ground to harvest them, causing severe resentment of the remaining earth-dwelling inhabitants who felt like being abandoned in „Hell“. As a result, tensions boiled over to a point where the remnants of Earths society began banding together in an act of rebellion against the Ark populations, culminating in a war that was waged both on Earth and Space.
