The elections were held concurrently with the presidential election, the U.S. Senate elections and the U.S. House elections of the year.

All but three of these races featured incumbents and only two of these incumbents ended up losing.

Going along with the Republican wins across the country, the Republicans picked up two seats and strengthened their majority.
