The 2016 Senate elections were held on November 8th 2014, concurrently with the 2016 presidential election, the U.S. House races of the year, and various other statewide elections.
In spite of winning the presidency, the Republicans suffered a loss of one seat. Nevertheless, the GOP retained control of the Senate.
Minority Leader, Harry Reid, retired from the Senate and was replaced by New York Senator Chuck Schumer.
