History[]

for pre-2016 united states

Populist Era (2016-2029)[]

The Populist Era occurred across the world, as many people wanted change in their home country. The United States was no different. In 2016, the year many historians believe the era began, Businessman Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. Trump was a right-wing populist that strongly supported border security, tariffs and opposed trade deals such as NAFTA and TPP. When Trump was in office, the economy was doing great until 2020, when the Early 2020s finical crisis occurred. This would hurt President Trump's ability of getting re-elected. The American people felt betrayed and elected a left-wing populist and socialist Bernie Sanders to the presidency in 2020. Sanders ran in 2016 in the Democratic Party primaries, but was cheated out by establishment candidate Hillary Clinton, which would be defeated by Trump in the 2016 general.

Under Sanders presidency, we tried to get his single-payer healthcare to work, but this failed. He would raise the minimum wage federally to $15 an hour, which many companies had to lay off workers and prices would go up a lot when shopping at Minimum wage stores. However, Sanders did legalize marijuana federally across the nation, would end United States-Saudi ties, and would be Puerto Rico and Washington D.C states in 2023 and 2026 respectfully.
