The translocator is a teleportation device capable of moving an object from one location to another. The translocator, also known as an energy-matter scrambler, is able to convert the molecules of an object or individual into energy, then beam them into a chamber where they are reconverted back into their original pattern. The Viperox referred to Terran Confederation translocators as material transmission units.
History[]
Although translocators have been used by many civilizations throughout history, the first Terran-made translocator was invented sometime after to 2200, originated by Matias De Marco, who was revered as the "Father of the Translocator".
When the translocator was in its infancy, there was much controversy surrounding its safety and reliability within Terran Confederation. When it became approved for biomatter, there were even protests. The debates ranged from claims of brain cancer, psychosis and sleep disorders to metaphysical debates over whether or not the person translocated was the same person or a copy of the original. Some claimed that, when a person used a translocator, that person, for a split second, could actually feel him or herself in two places at once. This claim was heard by boomers such as Terran Base I.
