- The COVID-19 pandemic has caused disruption to the sporting calendar. It has led to cancellation or postponement of many sporting events, notable example:
- 2020 Summer Olympics, to be held in Tokyo, is postponed to 2021.
- UEFA Euro 2020 and 2020 Copa América are postponed to 2021.
Association football[]
- Around the world, many football leagues were suspended since March. Some of them were later abandoned, including French and Dutch leagues; some others managed to finish the competition. The second wave of coronavirus cases has caused the postponement of the 2020–21 season of some European football leagues.
- Liverpool won the Premier League for the first time since the formation of the league in 1992. It is also their first English league title since 1990.
- Bayern Munich won the UEFA Champions League, thus completed the treble. Previously, Bayern have also won Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal.
