Ninth Generation of Video Games[]

The ninth generation of video games took place from 2017 to 2024.

Nintendo Switch[]

The Nintendo Switch is a home-handheld console hybrid released by Nintendo, for the ninth generation of video games, in March 2017. Many accounted this console as Nintendo's return to the top. It had a great array of first-party titles such as the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Smash Bros. Switch, Super Mario Switch, Pikmin 4, and much more. Along with a good deal of first-party titles, it also had a good array of Wii U ports and third-party titles too. Significant third-party titles include of Just Dance 2017, Lego City Undercover, Stardew Valley, Dragon Quest XI, Sonic Resistance (Project Sonic 2017),  and Yooka-Laylee. It sold out the first 2 million units prepared in its first week-and-a-half and also brought back many hardcore Nintendo fans who were swayed away from the Wii for its motion controls. By the end of its lifespan, it held the third highest sales for a Nintendo console with 57.5 million unit sales in total, falling behind the NES and Wii.

Xbox Scorpio[]

The Xbox Scorpio is Microsoft's ninth generation console, it was released in November 2017. Many account this console as a "failure" as it failed to leave a mark on the market.  Reasons for failure included its high price of $599 USD, and its close release date to the Xbox One S (being only a year before it), the Xbox One S still hadn't finished its lifespan so it overshadowed the Xbox Scorpio. Notable major games include of Sonic Resistance, Yooka-Laylee, a port of Sea of Thieves, and Halo 6. Its total sales at the end of its lifespan held up at around 17 million units sold.

PlayStation 5[]

The PlayStation 5 is Sony's ninth generation console, it was released on December 2018. Being released more than a year later than the Nintendo Switch, it had a rough time catching up. But, backwards compatibility with the PS4 and PS4 Pro helped. Notable major games include of LittleBigPlanet 4, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. At the end of its lifespan, it sold at least 51.5 million units.
