Scotland, also known as the Republic of Scotland, is a nation that covers the northern 1/3 of the island of Great Britain. Scotland gained independence after a referendum in 2021 and joined as a member of both the European Union in 2023 until its dissolution in 2033 and joined NATO in 2024 and left in 2040. It also joined the Commonwealth in 2025.
Scotland is governed by the President and his appointees and the Parliament of Scotland.
Independence[]
Scotland held a referendum with the consent of the British Parliament to determine independence for the Republic of Scotland, and Scotland narrowly voted for independence. In 2022, Scotland formally gained independence from the United Kingdom.
History[]
Scotland applied for membership in the European Union in September 2022, and was granted after all EU members voted yes in 2023. Scotland also joined NATO in 2024. Scotland joined the Commonwealth in 2025, with King Charles III as its monarch.
Part of the aileron of Virgin Airlines Flight 543 was found on a beach near the city of Ullapool on September 8, 2028.
Scotland was hit hard by the Financial Crisis of 2029-2030, but was economically supported by the E.U until its collapse in 2033, and riots began in the streets. A new admenment to the Constitution removed much of the power of Parliament and gave that power to the Prime Minister, and with reforms to a federal republic, that power was transferred from the now defunct Prime Minister to the newly established President. Parliament was now mainly powerless. These reforms are known as the 2035 Scottish Reforms and the 2038 Scottish Reforms.
Scotland left NATO in 2040.
