The Florida Flooding Crisis began on May 5, 2101 when a series of severe thunderstorms caused extensive damage and flooding in the southern and central parts of the state of Florida over a period of eight days. The Governor of Florida declared a state of emergency the day the storms hit. Nearly a thousand people were killed in the floods.
On June 7, a category four hurricane collided with a category five in the Atlantic. Meteorologists feared that the new hurricane, dubbed "Destroyer", would be worse than Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and would "drown nearly all of Florida." On June 9, the President ordered a mandatory evacuation of nearly 50 million Florida residents. On June 11, Destroyer struck the state, killing over a thousand people – the death toll was extremely low due to the quick evacuation of the residents.
As of 2106, three-fourths of the peninsula is underwater.
