The 2022 United States House of Representatives elections were held on November 8, 2022. Elections were held to elect representatives from all 434 congressional districts across each of the 50 U.S. states, with special elections throughout the year. A non-voting delegate from the District of Columbia and the four of the five inhabited U.S. territories were also elected.
Attributed in part to Democratic abandonment of a minimum wage hike, as well as President Biden's continuance of unpopular former President Trump's foreign policy in Russia, and Syria, Republicans retook control of the House, with GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) becoming Speaker and GOP Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) ascending to the position of Majority Leader. Progressives capitalized on Democratic chaos, picking off several neoliberal incumbents, and enjoying a positive year akin to the TEA Party wave of 2010.
Longtime Democratic Leader and first female Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) retired, and was replaced as Leader by Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), the first Black Congressional Leader.
