The European Theatre of WW3 was the main and deadliest theatre of World War III. The most deadliest battleground of the European theatre was Eastern Europe while Western Europe was the least bloodiest. There were several nuclear strikes over cities such as Birmingham in the UK, Toulouse in France, Belgrade in Serbia, Antalya in Turkey, Lodz in Poland, Mariupol in Ukraine, Minsk, Chelyabinsk and Grozny in Russia. It saw heavy fighting across the continent for eight years, starting with the 20th of May 2040 with the Russian invasion of Georgia and the countdown of the doomsday clock reaching zero, and ending with the unconditional capitulation of the Second Russian Tsardom on the 6th of October 2048.
The World Defence Pact fought the Euro Asian Alliance on the major front of the European theatre: Eastern Europe. The reason why most fighting took place in Eastern Europe is because Eastern Europe is very near Russia.
Preceding events[]
Following the Euromaidan, the Ukrainian Revolution of 2014, and the ousting of Viktor Yanukovych, pro-Yanukovych loyalists formed pro-Russian militias in the Donbass, Donetsk and Luhansk, with the goal of joining Russia. Russia also invaded and annexed Crimea on the 20th of February 2014. This led to 8 years of indirect fighting across Ukraine, until the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
When the Russian invasion of Ukraine ended, sanctions were lifted, Ukraine's borders was redrawn to its pre-2014 borders, and diplomatic relations between Russia and Ukraine were restored, and a 20-year nonaggression pact between the two was signed, known as the Zaporizhzhia Pact, to reduce the risk of the Second Russian invasion of Ukraine and to limit hostilities. Because of Russia's losses, INGSOC began to form and gain popularity across the former Soviet Union. This included Russia and Belarus as well as Ukraine and the Central Asian states.
After China betrayed Russia, the SCO disbanded. During the Canadian War of Secession, Russia had been suspected of supplying arms to the Quebec Independence Movement, and attempting to rig the 2027 East African Referendum, which led to this.
After the Indo-Pak War of 2030, India's relations began to approach the CSTO. The CSTO, the Axis of Resistance and the South American Axis merged and formed the Euro Asian Alliance. The newly formed alliance became a threat to the West, so NATO, the APL, the PTO, the SAP and the PSF merged and formed the World Defence Pact to unite against the EAA.
In 2032, Belarus, the Central Asian countries, and Afghanistan chose to join Russia, and Russia restored the Russian Empire. At the same time, the World Defence Pact was established, and Russia set a doomsday clock of 7 years, meaning that WW3 will start. The Russian Empire and India signed the Russo-Indian Treaty of Cooperation and Mutual Aid, known as the Jaishankar-Turchak Pact for short, as India joined the EAA. 3 years later, the Kingdom of Newfoundland was integrated back into Canada.
Course of the War[]
2040[]
On the 19th of May 2040, Georgia declared war on South Ossetia, in reaction to the hijacking of Georgian Airways Flight 273 by South Ossetian extremists. Abkhazia hopped in to defend South Ossetia from Georgia. 2 days later, Georgia was able to take both countries out, but in response to the Fall of Sokhumi, Russia declared war on and invaded Georgia subsequently. The world reacted in horror, so the US and the EU renewed sanctions on Russia, and the WDP intervened to defend Georgia. Eritrea, Serbia, Iran, Laos and Cambodia declared full support for Russia.
Ukraine, Poland and the Baltics advanced into Belorussia, Kaliningrad and Mainland Russia, and nearly encircled Moscow. The EAA, fearing that Moscow might fall, intervenes to defend Russia, and launches a counterattack "Sunrise" against the WDP. As the countdown reaches zero, World War III officially begins. Despite having supplies and stronger weapons, the Baltics and Ukraine just fell under 3 months.
After the Russian Empire annexed Ukraine and the Baltics, Polish forces pushed into Kaliningrad to repel a Russian invasion of Poland. Although Russia managed to stop the invasion, and starts invading Poland. Poland sets up defences in its Eastern flank. At the same time, Serbia invades Kosovo, North Macedonia and Bosnia & Herzegovina. After Serbia's annexation of Kosovo and North Macedonia, they begin invading Albania, Croatia and Slovenia.
Meanwhile in Africa, Ethiopian forces crossed the Eritrean border, beginning the African theatre of the war. This causes Somalia to intervene and join the war, and attack Ogaden. Although, Ethiopia managed to occupy Somaliland, Puntland and capture Mogadishu. Eritrea falls after the Fall of Asmara. Somalia also fell, Ethiopia annexed both Eritrea and Somalia, giving Ethiopia back its coastline.
Hungary, Slovakia and Czechia just fall under 5 weeks, leaving Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey to defend themselves. On the 3rd of November, the 2040 United States Presidential Election is held between Elizabeth Warren and Rand Paul, causing fighting to halt, ending the first phase, making Phase 1 of the war the shortest phase of WW3.
2041, and start of Phase II[]
After Elizabeth Warren won the 2040 US Presidential Election, fighting resumed, beginning the second phase of the war. After the fall of the Balkans and Turkey, supreme leader of the Russian Empire Andrey Turchak and Yugoslav president Aleksandar Vucic met in Plovdiv, and Eastern Europe's borders were redrawn by the Plovdiv Accords. Bulgaria was reestablished as an EAA member, and annexed Dobrogea, Thrace and the east of South Macedonia, and Hungary was also reestablished as an EAA member, annexed Transylvania and borrowed Transcarpathia from Russia while Serbia took the west of South Macedonia. Russia also annnexed Moldova. Romania was split into two: Wallachia and Moldavia. Moldavia was a puppet state, while Wallachia was occupied.
Russia supplied arms to Argentina during the invasion of the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Sandwich Islands. This opened the South American theatre of the war. With Ecuador not being bordered with a strong ally, Colombia and Peru invade the country on every border. At the same time, El Salvador and Nicaragua declare war on their neighbours, but managed to stop this.
2042[]
Africa was only a front with Ethiopia's undeclared war on Eritrea and Somalia, until on the 23rd of March 2042, Algeria declared war on and subsequently invaded Tunisia. Algeria's invasion of Tunisia was successful, but this caused the Lagos Cooperation Organisation, the Lusaka Pact and the Congolese Brotherhood to merge into one alliance known as the African Entente, and invade Algeria's southern region. In reaction to the invasion, Algeria called for Sudan's and Mali's help. Both countries accepted, and signed a defensive treaty in Algiers, known as the Algiers Defensive Agreement, or the Algiers Pact for short, a pro-Russian economic alliance in Africa whos purpose is to spread Eastern influence in Africa.
Algeria and Russia eventually kickstart a military coup in Madagascar, causing the country to align with the EAA and join the Algiers Pact. This also forces Andry Rajoelina to flee from Madagascar and to Mauritius. Mauritius declares neutrality. Later, Yugoslavia annexes Croatia and Slovenia, and starts an invasion of Italy. Italy was able to hold off the invading Yugoslavians, encircle them in Venice. In Greece, resistance groups in Amorgos such as the Amorgos Liberation Front and the Hellenic Resistance have been quelled by Russian and Yugoslavian forces, but resistance in Crete remains active underground while the rest of Greece falls to the EAA.
2043[]
In 2043, The European Union imposed sanctions on Algeria for their invasion of Tunisia and threatening peace in Africa. This inspires the United States to impose sanctions on Algeria as well for threatening peace in Africa. Back in Europe, Russian forces begin the invasion of Germany, while Hungary and Yugoslavia begin their invasion of Austria. Luckily, Vienna was not destroyed by bombs. Meanwhile in the Middle East, Saudi and Iranian navies have faced stalemates in the Persian Gulf. The US also sanctions Sudan for threatening peace, causing Sudan to cut diplomatic relations with the United States. 3 years after the fall of Yemen, the country is then balkanised into three: North Yemen, being occupied. South Yemen on the WDP's side, and Socotra remaining neutral. Meanwhile in Northern Europe, Finland continues its offensive in Karelia while Russian forces start the invasion of Norway. Meanwhile in Antarctica, Argentine Antarctica falls to British, Brazilian and Chilean forces. At the same time, the United Nations dissolves. Meanwhile in Oceania, Argentine forces coming from Argentine-Occupied Papua New Guinea invade the Indonesian province of Papua.
2044[]
On the 30th of April 2044, The United States, the European Union and China have officially declared a state of war on the Algiers Pact, which gives the alliance the pass to merge with the Euro Asian Alliance. Ethiopia and the East African Federation enter the Sudanese territory, beginning the invasion of Sudan. Meanwhile in East Africa, Mozambican, Australian and South African navies begin an invasion of Madagascar. Mozambican forces land on the western shores of Madagascar, while Australian navies land on the country's east. Australian forces then encircle Antananarivo, sieging the city. Madagascar surrenders days later. Italian forces land in Northeast Tunisia, beginning the Liberation of Tunisia.
Meanwhile in Africa, after three months of obstacles blocking their way, Egyptian, Ethiopian and East African forces have officially captured Khartoum, but Sudan refuses to surrender. At the fall of Khartoum, the military dictator of Sudan Tariq al-Bashir, the nephew of Omar behind the 2034 Islamist coup, is assassinated, causing the country to surrender. With Sudan down, Algeria is the remaining EAA member in Africa. Tunisia has been fully liberated from Algerian occupation. The invasion of Algeria begins as WDP forces enter the country and French forces land on the coast of Algeria. Around the same time, Egyptian forces assemble a "D-Day" off the shores of northern Egypt, and launch operation "Bloodsucker", with the goal of liberating Turkey and the Balkans from Russian occupation. After the fall of Algiers, the Algerian government refused to surrender and fled to Touggourt. Although, Moroccan forces have encircled the city and assassinated the Algerian president, causing the country to surrender, ending WW3 in Africa and the Algiers Pact's reign of terror in the continent.
On the 1st of November 2044, the 2044 US Presidential Election is held. This time, it's Elizabeth Warren vs John Thune. Some people were hoping for Warren's second term as President of the United States, but unfortunately, due to her high unpopularity, John Thune won the election and defeated incumbent Elizabeth Warren. Thune will be inaugurated on the 16th of January 2045. The war comes to another stalemate, with no change in frontlines, ending the second phase of WW3. But, Egyptian, Greek and Turkish forces are already occupying Southern Greece and Southwest Turkey.
2045 and beginning of third and final phase[]
Following the inauguration of Republican senator John Thune, fighting resumes, with the third and final phase commencing. Germany quells the Russian invasion of Germany in just two years, and starts liberating the Czech Republic and the rest of Eastern Europe. Austrian and Polish forces then start entering Russian-occupied Czechia while Italian and another portion of the Austrian army initiate the invasion of Yugoslavia. Meanwhile in the Balkans, Turkish and Egyptian forces start advancing into Ankara. Greek forces have liberated Athens, but Greece proper has not yet been fully liberated as Russian forces refuse to withdraw from the country.
Meanwhile in the Middle East, the US, the UAE and Saudi Arabia launch an invasion of Southern Iran. Saudi Arabia and Israel fuse into a combined force and start liberating Jordan. After the fall of Amman, EAA troops completely withdrew from Jordan. The invasion of Iran continues. In Asia, Sri Lanka joins the war on the third party, but India invades and annexes it while China pushes the Russians in Manchuria and Indian and Nepali forces back. Chinese, Korean and Japanese forces combine to form the East Asian Combined Task Force, a platoon of Allied forces mixed with Chinese, Korean and Japanese, and begin an invasion of the Far East. Meanwhile in Antarctica, China and the US have halted the offensive into Russia's Antarctic colony.
2046[]
Meanwhile in Oceania, Australia begins liberating Tasmania and Papua New Guinea from Argentine occupation, while in Europe, Polish forces begin blitzing into Galicia and Hungary, and Austria and Poland begin the Austro-Polish invasion of Hungary. After the fall of Bratislava, Slovakia became fully liberated. At the fall of Budapest, Hungary's original government was restored, ending 5 years of fascist rule in the country and disbanding the Arrow Cross Party.
2047[]
Meanwhile in South America, Chile, Brazil and Peru begin invading Bolivia and advance into La Paz and Potosi on the 8th of September 2047. The final battle begins in La Paz, and Bolivia surrenders days later. A treaty is signed Sucre. With Bolivia down, the South American WDP forces now carry out the offensive to defeat Argentina as quick as possible. However, the offensive into Argentina has halted to resupply and to prevent high casualties. In Europe, the allies have carried out the final allied offensive to liquidate Yugoslavia once and for all. Meanwhile in the Baltics, Finland and Poland start landing on the Baltics, and encircle Talinn. After Talinn's fall, the United Baltic Republic was proclaimed, while civilians conduct an uprising in Russian-occupied Courland. At the same time, Poland annexes Galicia, Croatia annexes Bosnia but not Republika Srpska, while Greece, Albania, Bulgaria and Romania are fully liberated from EAA rule. Albania then invades Kosovo and Crnagora. Montenegro, at the same time is restored as Crnagora, and Belgrade is besieged. After the fall of Belgrade, Yugoslavia surrendered, and changed its name to Serbia, being left occupied. A treaty was then signed in Skopje. Serbia:
- Must cede Republika Srpska to Croatia.
- Must cede Kosovo to Albania.
- Must cede North Macedonia to Bulgaria.
- Release Vojvodina.
- Change its name from Yugoslavia to Serbia.
- Pay $80,000,000 in war reparations.
- Will be occupied for 13 years.
Meanwhile in Oceania, Argentine troops have been kicked from Oceania, and Oceania has become free from Argentine forces, but the Pacific Ocean is polluted by the atrocities, damages and war crimes committed by the Argentines. Meanwhile in the Middle East, the WDP start blitzing into Syria and Iraq. Just before Baghdad would be captured, a coup occurs in Baghdad, causing the country to switch sides. Iraqi forces now fight along with the WDP and start invading Syria. The battle of Damascus begins, and Syria capitulates 9 days later. On the 22nd of December 2047, Turkish and Iraqi forces begin an invasion of Iranian Azerbaijan and the Caucasus. After the fall of Yerevan, Transcaucasia was officially declared, and began blitzing into Russia. After the fall of Tehran, Iran signed the Armistice of Isfahan, and surrendered 2 days later, marking the end of WW3 in the Middle East. Although, remaining Iranian forces in Iranian Antarctica refuse to stop fighting. 4 days later, the last Iranian forces have surrendered. A treaty will be signed in Dubai.
2048: The final year of the war[]
Meanwhile in Antarctica on the 7th of March 2048, China continues the invasion of Indian Antarctica, the second-last major battle in the Antarctic Theatre of WW3. Germany (New Swabia) starts their offensive into Alexandria. After four months of fighting in Indian Antarctica, China has fully occupied the Indian Antarctic Colony. Due to extreme conditions, it may take about 4 months for an Antarctic colony to be taken over. After the fall of Alexandria's capital, Svobodnogorod, Russian forces in their colony in Antarctica surrendered, officially ending WW3 in Antarctica. A treaty will be signed in Nanjizhicheng.
Meanwhile in Asia, Chinese and Pakistani platoons begin heading towards New Delhi, the capital of India. On the 24th of August 2048, the offensive into Buenos Aires resumed, but this time more cautiously compared to 2047. 7 days later, Buenos Aires fell, and Argentina, South America's last EAA member, capitulated to the allies, bringing an end to WW3 in South America and the Americas. A meeting will be held in Sao Paulo.
5 years after the dissolution of the United Nations in 2043, the United World Order was then declared on the 16th of August by the allies. A few days after the fall of New Delhi, India signed an armistice with China, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Australia, and capitulated, leaving the Russian Empire the last EAA member. A treaty will be signed in Perth.
The offensive into Russia continued, and after the fall of Kiev, Ukraine declared independence. After the Battle of Minsk, Belarus declared independence qas well. Finnish and Baltic forces eventually encircle St Petersburg, officially commencing the Battle of St Petersburg. Russia, unaware of China, Japan and the US invading Siberia on the other side, sends troops to defend the region, with the other Chinese forces and Pakistani forces invading Afghanistan and Central Asia.
On the 24th of September, Central Asian separatist movements consisting of Karakalpaks, Bukharans, Uzbeks, Turkmen, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, Tajiks, Badakhshanis and Pashtuns conducted uprisings in Central Asia. The WDP sees this as the perfect time to move quicker. Russia, seeing that they can only fight on one front now, decides to retreat its military to Moscow, the capital to defend the city. After Moscow was encircled by Allied forces, the Battle of Moscow began. US, British and Ukrainian forces storm the Kremlin. After the Kremlin was stormed, Andrey Turchak was shot dead by an allied firing squad consisting of American, British and Ukrainian soldiers. The Russian Empire surrenders, and the war ends. A treaty will be signed in Helsinki. Russia:
- Cannot go more than 400,000 in its manpower until 2100.
- Must recognise Crimea as part of Ukraine.
- Must cede Kuban and Rostov to Ukraine.
- Must cede Sochi to Transcaucasia.
- Must cede Karelia and Murmansk Oblast to Finland.
- Must cede Kaliningrad to Poland.
- Must cede Outer Manchuria to China.
- Must cede Sakhalin Oblast to Japan.
- Must recognise the Kuril Islands as part of Japan.
- Shall release the Central Asian nations, Chechnya, Dagestan and the North Caucasian Union.
- Will be split into two: The Russian Federation, and the Siberian State.
- Will be occupied until 2054.
Aftermath[]
The European Theatre had proven to be the deadliest theatre of World War III. Although, most fighting took place in Eastern Europe. According to rumours, the Russian Empire committed more war crimes than Nazi Germany, the Japanese Empire and the Soviet Union. Ethnic groups such as Crimean Tatars and Gagauz were severely mistreated by the Russians and beaten to death. There were lots of widespread diseases and famine. Global warming had slowed down after the establishment of the United World Order, and the Net-Zero by 2050 law. A new era of peace has come to the planet.
