The Second Cold War, commonly known as the 2nd Cold War, Cold War II, Cold War 2 or the New Cold War, was an era of geopolitical tension between the United States and China, and their respective allies, the Democratic and Revolutionary Blocs, which began following World War III. The "bloodless" conflict is analogous to the Cold War from 1945 after World War II ended, and until 1991 when the Soviet Union dissolved. It is unknown to what day it started and ended, but people from the year 3022, what is now the United Sectors of Terra, believe that it is generally considered to span from the 4th of April 2050, the day the Thune doctrine was announced, to the 3rd of June 2306, the day United Congo declared war on Zambia after a border dispute, which eventually turned into the Fourth World War. The term "Cold War" is used because there was no large-scale conflict between the two superpowers, but they each supported proxy wars, which are major regional conflicts. The conflict was based around the geopolitical struggle for global influence by these two superpowers, following their temporary alliance and victory against the Russian Empire during WW3 in 2048. Aside from the electromagnetic arsenal development and conventional military development, the struggle for dominance was expressed via indirect means such as cyberwarfare, propaganda, espionage, far-reaching embargoes, rivalry at sports events such as the Olympics and Wimbledon, rivalry at eSports and technological competitions such as the AI Arms Race, and most notably, the Second Space Race.

The Democratic Bloc is analogous to the Western Bloc from the 20th century Cold War from 1947 to 1991, which is led by the United States as well as many First World nations that are liberal democratic, but linked to a network of authoritarian regimes, usually former colonies in Antarctica, while the Revolutionary Bloc, which is analogous to the Eastern Bloc, is led by China and its Communist Party, which had an influence across the Second World and was also linked to a network of authoritarian states. The United States of America and their allies backed and funded anti-Beijing Pact and right wing movements and uprisings while the People's Republic of China backed and funded pro-Chinese revolutions around the world. As nearly all the Antarctic colonies before and during WW3 achieved independence in the period 2055-2070, they became Third World battlefields in the Second Cold War. The 2nd Cold War was the preceding event of WW4.

Origins[]

After the Third World War ended, the US and China began to denuclearise the world, make mind uploading possible, start terraforming Mars, make education better, school systems more sufficient, make access to the internet using humanity's minds, and start the colonisation of space. Also, artificial wombs are now a thing because women don't need to give birth to their babies naturally. In Africa, Morocco invades Western Sahara. The United World Order sends peacekeeping troops to order Morocco to leave Western Sahara, or else they will impose sanctions on Morocco. Morocco accepts the ultimatum, and agree to leave Western Sahara, signing a permanent ceasefire. South Africa and Ethiopia, both countries that are on the victor's side, are competing to become the biggest economy in Africa. Ethiopia became the biggest economy in Africa, and later in 2055, the South African economy surpassed Ethiopia fast. causing the two to became rivals and start the African Cold War.

Several allied nations signed the Treaty of Helsinki. The Treaty of Helsinki includes:

  1. Poland will annex Kaliningrad.
  2. Ukraine will annex Rostov and Krasnodar.
  3. Finland will annex Karelia and Murmansk.
  4. Mongolia will annex Tuva.
  5. China obtains Outer Manchuria.
  6. St Petersburg will be under UWO administration until 2070.
  7. Transcaucasia gains Sochi.
  8. Russia will pay 6 billion dollars in war reparations.
  9. Russia to recognise Crimea as part of Ukraine.
  10. Russia will give independence to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Chechnya and Dagestan.
  11. Eurasia will dissolve, and split into 2 nations: The Russian Federation and the State of Siberia.
  12. Russia will be occupied until 2056.
  13. Russia can go no more than 400,000 men in its military.
  14. Russia cannot go to war until 2100.
  15. Belarus can't unite with Russia until 2090.

After the treaty, the World Defence Pact disbanded, and gave birth to the New York Security Organisation, and its main rival, the Beijing Pact. And also, all Euro Asian Alliance leaders have been executed, with the exception of Vladimir Putin.

China, a nation on the victor's side that obtained Outer Manchuria, begins to increase its naval presence in the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean. The US, Japan, the Philippines and Australia condemned China's naval presence in the South China Sea, but China refused to stop her activities in the South China Sea, so a coalition led by Japan and consisting of Japan proper, Korea, Taiwan, some Southeast Asian countries (except for Myanmar and Thailand as they are Chinese allies, and East Timor and Brunei, which both tiny nations sought to remain neutral and serve as peace mediators), Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, was formed against China, which would later integrate into the NYSO.

Background[]

The term "Cold War" was used by George Orwell in an essay titled "you and the atomic bomb", as in a reference to the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. Contemplating in a world in the threat of a nuclear war, he warned of a "peace that is no peace", which he called a permanent "cold war". The one who coined the term was Bernard Baruch, a multimillionaire financier and advisor to presidents Woodrow Wilson and Harry S. Truman. He coined the term to describe the increasingly chilly relations between the 2 victors of World War II: The United States and the Soviet Union.

The Cold War traces back to the end of World War II, the defeat of Nazi Germany. The Yalta Conference was made to prevent a Fourth Reich from rising, hoping that Germany will be weak, and not start a WW3. The Soviet Union installed all of Eastern Europe (except for Greece and Turkey) with communist governments, while the United States had all allies in Western Europe. The Soviet Union was hoping to dominate the entire world and replace with communist governments, causing the US to activate the Truman doctrine and establish the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, to deal with the communist menace.

Several decades later, the Soviet Union dissolved, and Russia and the US remained close ties, along with Ukraine, until the 2014 Russian Annexation of Crimea, and the 2022 Russian Invasion of Ukraine.

Overview[]

After WW3, China grew vast in size, and the World Defence Pact disbanded after the Treaty of Helsinki, and gave birth to 2 rivaling alliances of the New York Security Organisation in 2050 and the Beijing Pact in 2053. Africa became one of the strategic locations of the world, along with Bessarabia, a disputed region between Romania and Ukraine, and Galicia, also another disputed region between Poland and Ukraine. The US and China began to compete. As China grew more powerful, China began increasing its presence in Southeast Asia, and the South China Sea. The Philippines and the US saw this as a threat, so the US uses radars to distract them. China uses artificial islands and starts making presence in the Spratly Islands, angering the Philippines, so the US produced seamines to defend the Philippines from China's presence, beginning the Second Cold War.

Aftermath of WW3[]

Galician War[]

4 months after WW3 ended, relations between Poland and Ukraine became bitter, as Ukraine, under a far-left authoritarian government, declared war on Poland and subsequently invaded Galicia. Poland called Germany, the US, Romania and Greece for help. All of them accepted, and sent supplies to the country, starting a counteroffensive against Ukraine and entering Ukrainian territory.

The Polish army merged victorious in each battle in Western Ukraine, and begin to head for Kiev. As the Polish army with stronger weapons were about to encircle Kiev, Pakistan intervened and launched a counterattack against Poland, and pushed them back to Western Ukraine. The US entered the war to help Poland. This prompted China to enter the war as well to help Ukraine. After the US and China intervened, the risk of a Fourth World War was very high. Luckily, Poland and Ukraine ratified the Lviv Armistice.

Formation of the New York Security Organisation[]

After the Treaty of Helsinki, World War III officially ended, the World Defence Pact disbanded. To counter the threat posed by China, the Thune Doctrine, which is analogous to the Truman Doctrine, became effective, and the US and its allies signed the New York Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, Security and Mutual Aid, and gave birth to the New York Security Organisation, an economic and military alliance consisting of the United States and their allies.

Post-WW3 violence in Sudan[]

Main Article: Post-WW3 Violence in Sudan (AFOE Post-WW3)

All participants of WW3 signed the Treaty of Helsinki, except for Sudan, a nation on the loser's side. The reason they refused to sign the treaty even though they were included was because it wanted to keep Abyei as their land. They chose to give away the north of their country to Egypt. Following the disbandment of the World Defence Pact after WW3, the schism between Ethiopia and South Africa began, and Sudan was weakened and exhausted from the war, so all of its neighbours, with the exception of Chad, saw this as an opportunity to invade the country, so they attacked it, and split Sudan into 2 governments: The 2nd Sudanese Republic and the Transhumanist Sudanese Government. Both regimes fighting for power sparked a civil war in the country.

Transhumanist Sudanese began attacking Sudanese Republicans and pushed them to the northwest, controlling most of the country. The US and Egypt, seeing that the Sudanese Republic is losing, sends supplies to the country. At the same time, the East African Federation invades the Transhumanist Sudanese controlled south of the country, and joins the war on the Republicans' side. After this, a large portion of the Transhumanist Sudanese Army in southwest Darfur was encircled by Republican partisans. Chad, seeing that the Republicans have become stronger, entered the war on the third party to invade Darfur and back a rebellion in the east of the region, known as the Darfurian Liberation Front, a far-right and secessionist organisation designated as a terrorist group by the Sudanese Republicans that wants to end Sudanese persecution of Darfurians in the region and welcome the Chadians. As Chadian and DLF forces occupied the entire region of Darfur, Darfur made the right choice of joining Chad. After this, the region was no longer part of Sudan, it is now part of Chad.

After the Sudanese Republicans liberated Khartoum from the Transhumanists, the Republicans and the Transhumanists signed the Omdurman Ceasefire, officially concluding the Third Sudanese Civil War. At the same time, Ethiopia declares war on the East African Federation, officially beginning the Ethiopian-East African War.

Vojvodinian Civil War[]

In 2099, as Vojvodina started its crackdown on resentment and anti-junta protests more brutal, more protests begin to evade the crackdowns. The war started off with peaceful protests in Novi Sad, which erupted into a civil war. The United Freedom Movement, known as the Vojvodinian opposition, was formed and pushed north. The US, Russia and Serbia sent supplies to the UFM to strengthen them. The EU and the UK also sent supplies, while Albania and China supported the pro-Milosevic forces.

Opposition forces now head for Sombor on the 15th of September. 2 days later, the city is captured, along with Pancevo. After the city was captured, the UFM advance to Sremska Mitrovica. It took them a few days. The US and Serbia deploy their armies due to the Vojvodinian government forces pushing the UFM back, and begin an airstrike on Subotica. This prompted many countries to react to this. The West supported this, but China and her allies condemned it. China and Turkey had falsely accused the US of supporting "terrorists" in Vojvodina. The US in response, told China that they bombed Vojvodina to free the Vojvodinian people from the military junta. China classified this as "completely false and misleading". On the 1st of January 2100, the year 2100 just arrived, and everyone was enjoying it, promising a brighter future ahead, except for Vojvodina. Serbian and Greek sources say that 72% of Vojvodina is under opposition control, and Turkish sources say that 23% of the country is under opposition control.

On the 1st of February 2100 at 8pm CEST, a month after the year 2100 arrived, the battle of Novi Sad began. as the final battle of the civil war. Because of US, Serbian and Greek airstrikes on almost every city, the buildings were burning. Opposition and Serbian forces eventually seize the Vojvodinian parliament, and find and arrest Radomir Milosevic, thus ending the Vojvodinian Civil War.
