The United States presidential election of 2040 was the 64th quadrennial American presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 6, 2040.
The popular incumbent, President Hakeem Jeffries, faced a challenge from a rising conservative Republican - Utah Governor Tagg Romney. Romney selected New York Representative Morgan Zegers as his running mate, and campaigned on ending Jeffries' progressive agenda in favor of a traditionalist, neo-conservative administration.
Primaries[]
This election was historically small, as only three candidates campaigned for the office of the President in the primaries.
Incumbent President Hakeem Jeffries faced no opponents, and the Republican challengers consisted of Neo-Conservative Utah Governor Tagg Romney, and the "Trump Republican" Texas Representative Owen Shroyer.
Romney defeated Shroyer, clinching the party's nomination in April of 2040. Shroyer was victorious in the northern and west coast states, where former President Trump's message was still relevant, however Tagg Romney took advantage of the Midwest and South's rejuvenated Neo-Conservatism.
The Libertarian Party nominated Andrew Hollister of New York, former candidate for Lieutenant Governor. Once again, the Green Party co-endorsed the Democratic Party ticket of Hakeem Jeffries and Nina Turner. The American Identitarian Party nominated California City Councilman Patrick Little, who announced fellow Californian Nathan Damigo, creator of Identity Evropa, as his running mate.
General Election[]
President Jeffries easily defeated Governor Romney, 406 electoral votes to 132. The Jeffries/Turner administration's Democratic Socialist message of equality and social justice resulted in victories in Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, and Ohio. Romney and Zegers barely held on to wins in Iowa, South Carolina, and Indiana. The American Identitarian Party reached 8% nationally - whereas the Libertarian Party fell to 2%.
Through the Trump, Kobach, and Rubio administrations - America had finally swung back to the Democratic Party, and the youthful, progressive wing at that.
