The 2020 United States presidential election was held on Tuesday November 3rd, 2020 and was the 59th presidential election in American history. This election was held alongside races to the senate, house of representative, gubernatorial and local elections.

The Democratic ticket of Former Vice President Joe Biden from Delaware and US Senator Kamala Harris from California defeated the Republican ticket of Incumbents Donald Trump from Florida and Mike Pence from Indiana.

Incumbent President Donald Trump of the Republican Party was nominated again by the Republican Party in a crushing victory in the primaries, winning every single contest. On the Democratic side, many candidates run to become the Democratic nominee, including the former Vice President Joe Biden from Delaware, 2016 Democratic candidate and Independent US Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont and many others. Sanders won Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada by the popular vote, and Biden won South Carolina. Due to Mayor Pete Buttigieg from Indiana and US Senator Amy Klobuchar from Minnesota dropping out after the South Carolina primary, Biden cruised to victory on Super Tuesday and would become the presumptive nominee by April.

The campaign of the general election was focused on the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic and Recession, Civil Unrest in the streets after the killings of several African-Americans by Police officers, The Supreme Court as Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died in September and the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to replace her. Biden's campaign focused on the failures of the Trump administration to combat COVID-19, and Trump's efforts to repeal Obamacare. Trump's campaign focused on Law & Order and attacked Joe Biden as a Marxist puppet. In October, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were diagnosed with COVID-19, which he was sent to the hospital and wasn't able to campaign for a month. Luckily, President Trump survived until the election.

Biden defeated Trump, with 306 electoral votes and 51% of the popular vote compared to Trump's 232 and 47%. Biden flipped back the Obama to Trump states & districts of Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Maine and Nebraska's 2nd Congressional Districts. Biden was also the first Democrat to win Arizona since Bill Clinton in 1996 and the first to win Georgia since 1992. Biden became the oldest US President at age 78, and Harris became the first female and person of color to become Vice President, and later become the first female President in 2023. Donald Trump would be the first President since George H. W. Bush to not receive a second term.

November 5th-Inauguration Day[]

Trump demanded recounts in many of close Biden states, however, the recounts were successful for Joe Biden and he was still the winner of the election. On November 12th, Donald Trump conceded the race to Joe Biden, saying to his supporters that the election was won by Biden fair and square.

Donald Trump would move out of the White House and into his mansion in Southern Florida, where he would live for the rest of his life.

On January 20th, 2021, Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States at 12:00pm EST, among with his Vice President Kamala Harris. Biden pledged to return America to normalcy and to treat people with decency throughout his term, regardless if they disagree with him or not. Many right-wing protesters attended the inauguration, saying that Joe Biden is not their president and said the American people are idiots for electing him.

Many media outlets celebrated Joe Biden being POTUS, with the NYT saying on their page that the madness is gone.
