The 2020 United States presidential election was the 59th quadrennial American presidential election. Democratic nominee Bernie Sanders and his vice-president, Elizabeth Warren, defeated the Republican nominee and re-runner Donald Trump, with his vice-president Mike Pence. Sanders took office on January 23rd as the 46th president of the United States, and Warren took office on the same date as the 49th United States vice-president.
Sanders emerged as the Democratic nominee due to his address to swear loyalty to the Democratic nomination if he were to run for 2020 presidential election. Sanders would face major opponents, including Beto O'Rourke, Pete Buttigieg, Cory Booker, and Tulsi Gabbard. However, Trump crusaded the Republican nomination, winning the nomination with no competition. Bernie's promises were mainly socialist related policies, holding his promises towards free healthcare and reversing economic inequality. Trump, however, kept advocating his promise to "Make America Great Again", as well as keep America secure by his wall to keep illegal immigration out of America.
Background[]
The grips that Trump held on many states that flipped Republican in 2016 were starting to fade away due to many of Trump's policies directed towards immigration. States started to loosen relations with Trump (specifically Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ohio). Recent polls in these states conclude with a average of 45% - 47% approval rating across these states.
Trump has also been criticized on the wall on the Mexican border. The reason for this is because the wall is not needed for border security. Many Republicans across many states are disapproving of the construction of the wall.
